How we work

How a stump comes out

Three steps, agreed with you before any work starts.

  1. Step 1: Send a photo or we measure

Most stumps can be priced from a photo with something for scale beside it.

  2. Step 2: We check what is underground

We ask about pipes, cables and drains nearby before the grinder starts.

  3. Step 3: We grind, rake and tidy

The stump is ground out, the chippings backfilled or bagged, and the area left level.

FAQs

Stump grinding: your questions

Answers to what people ask us most about this job.

How deep do you grind?

Usually 20 to 30cm below the surface, which is enough for turf or a new bed. We can go deeper for paving or a path.

Will the grinder fit through my side gate?

Our compact grinder goes through a gap of about 70cm. Tell us if your access is narrower and we will plan around it.

Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?

It is better to plant a little to one side. If it has to be the same spot, we dig out the chippings and add fresh topsoil.

Do the roots need taking out?

Not usually. Roots left in the ground rot away over a few years. We chase out any surface roots that would get in the way.
