Our story

Most trees need a careful trim, not a chainsaw at the bottom, and we would rather tell you that honestly.

  • Working since 2009
  • Fully insured
  • Qualified climbers
  • Stockport and north Cheshire

Hollin started in 2009 with one climber, a van and a lot of hedges in Bramhall. It is still a small firm: a few climbers, a ground team and a yard full of ropes, a chipper and a compact stump grinder.

We spend more time looking at trees than cutting them. A visit to quote means standing under the tree with you, working out what it needs, what is allowed and what sits underneath it, and writing that down with a price.

When we do cut, we cut properly: back to healthy branches and never topping. If birds are nesting, we wait until the young have flown, unless a tree is dangerous; then we make it safe and do only what is needed until the season is over. Then we chip the waste, rake the lawn and sweep the paths, because a tidy garden is part of the job.

Why choose us

Good tree work is mostly the planning.

The cutting is the quick part. Most of our time goes on looking at the tree properly, checking what is allowed, and planning how every piece comes down safely.

  • Permissions checkedWe check for preservation orders and conservation areas before we quote.
  • Nests checked firstIf birds are nesting, we wait, unless a tree is dangerous.
  • Trained climbersChainsaw and tree-climbing certificates, held by the people who climb.
  • Nothing left behindGreen waste chipped and recycled; the garden swept before we go.

How we work

What happens after you ask.

No surprises: you know what will be done, what it costs and when, before anyone climbs.

  1. Step 1: Tell us about the tree

Use the quote form or call. A photo or two helps us bring the right kit to the visit.

  2. Step 2: We visit and quote in writing

We look at the tree with you, check for any protection and send a clear written quote with the price.

  3. Step 3: We do the work and clear up

On the agreed day the team does the work, chips the waste and leaves the garden swept and tidy.

“Two climbers took our sycamore down in sections over the bungalow roof and the greenhouse. Nothing was touched, and the lawn was raked before they left.”

  • DavidWilmslow · Crown reductionSample review

“They told us the oak had a preservation order before we had even asked, sent the application to the council and did the reduction once consent came through.”

  • PriyaBramhall · Stump grindingSample review

“A clear written quote, there on the day they said, and the stump grinder fitted through our side gate with room to spare.”

  • MartinHazel Grove · Hedge reductionSample review

“Our leylandii had got far too tall. It is now a tidy two metres and they took every last clipping away.”

  • SuePoynton · Hedge cuttingSample review

“They found a blackbird nesting in the hedge and came back in September instead. Glad they checked.”

  • GarethMarple · Crown reductionSample review

“Two limes were shading the whole garden. After the reduction you would hardly know they had been touched, which is exactly what we wanted.”

What needs doing?

Choose the closest. You can explain more at the end.

Roughly how big is it?

Compared with the house is fine. For a hedge, think of its height.

Where is it?

Just the town or postcode for now. We ask for the address only if a visit is needed.

How do we get to it?

Where should we reply?

A name and one way to reach you. Everything else is optional.

We use it only to reply about this quote.

Photos (optional)

A photo of the whole tree helps. In this demo they stay on your device and are never uploaded.

What is wrong, how many trees, or anything about parking and access.

On a real Hollin site this would go straight to the team, who reply within one working day to talk about a visit. Nothing is booked until a date is agreed with you.

  • A photo of the whole tree, and one closer up, if you can
